SWIS Transmission Planning Update
Western Power’s role in the vision to make Western Australia a renewable energy powerhouse.
SWIS Transmission Planning Update
Western Power is working with the State Government to build, plan and scope for new and upgraded transmission infrastructure required to turn WA into a renewable energy powerhouse.
The recently-released South West Interconnected System (SWIS) Transmission Plan details the vision for delivery of an energy transition that benefits all Western Australians, reimagining how the network can robustly support our State now, and well into the future.
It builds on the State Government’s $1.6 billion investment in the network over recent years to outline a clear path forward for the Western Power network through Clean Energy Link projects in the north and east.
Developed through extensive modelling and forecasting including industry collaboration, the plan is a blueprint for facilitating the phase-out of coal generation by 2030 and supports the widespread electrification of existing industries.
From increasing network capacity in the Perth metropolitan area to strengthening local infrastructure in regional communities, the update identifies areas for potential transmission expansion throughout the South West Interconnected System (SWIS), and builds on previous planning documents including the SWIS Transmission Planning Update 2024 and the SWIS Demand Assessment.
The transmission build outlined in the Plan will form part of a broader pipeline of demand for locally made and supported energy infrastructure - creating local jobs and enabling the State to manufacture strategically important energy infrastructure right here in WA.
