Submission of proposed development

This form is for DPLH, LGAs and other Utilities required to make a submission in regard of proposed changes that may affect Western Power’s network as required by the Planning and Development Act 2005 (WA)and applicable regulations.

A brief self-assessment is appropriate for the submitting body to make of the area of proposed development. We provide tools to assess if your proposed area contains or provides access to Western Power assets:

Please use our Clearance assessment mapping tool which provides you with a clear visual display showing all overhead lines to assist you with your planning. If there are transmission assets in the way, you may need to take further action to ensure safety is maintained.

You may also use our Network capacity mapping tool to obtain an indication of underground and ground mounted assets.

If your department has set up an account on our MyWP Projects portal, you may use the Network Information Tool within the portal to request information for your area of proposed development

A submission to Before you Dig – will help to confirm the presence of underground cables. It is essential to know the location and voltage of any underground power cables and overhead network assets around your work area to assess the risk and carry out work safely. You will be held responsible for any negligent damage to Western Power’s assets.

Finally, a visual inspection of the site would be an appropriate action to take in confirming the presence of overhead, ground mounted or underground assets. Look for equipment boxes on the boundaries of packets of land, particularly those that would not be on the boundary after amalgamation. Streetlights will usually be linked by underground cables that follow roads and may cross properties in between.

We will respond within 3 weeks to confirm if the infrastructure needs moving – i.e. the developer will need to apply to Western Power for a relocation project, or if the asset can be protected, at which point we will reach out regarding establishing an easement. Fees, charges and terms and conditions will apply to a relocation project.

Without applying for a relocation project we are unable to provide any indication of the cost of relocating the asset – projects may be cancelled with no extra charges after a quote for construction has been provided by Western Power.

I have submitted a land access update identifying alternate access to this infrastructure, avoiding the area of proposed development. If the declaration made by the submitter is accurate then Western Power will have no objections to this development or change. Western Power reserves the right to assess the information and to submit an objection if this declaration is inaccurate. Fees, charges and terms and conditions will apply to a relocation project.
