Reconductoring
We're upgrading and maintaining the network through a reconductoring program to support ongoing power reliability.
We're carrying out reconductoring works across parts of the network.
Reconductoring involves replacing poles, overhead powerlines and other associated equipment to help provide reliable power supply for homes and businesses.
These works are part of our ongoing investment to maintain a safe and reliable electricity network for customers and communities across WA.
As part of this program, we’ll replace existing overhead conductors - the wires suspended between poles and network structures - with upgraded infrastructure designed to improve performance, reliability and long-term resilience.
This work supports our broader reliability improvement activities across the network and help replace ageing infrastructure, strengthen network performance, and support future energy needs.
Why these works are happening
Reconductoring works helps us to:
- improve network reliability and performance
- replace ageing infrastructure
- strengthen sections of the network during severe weather conditions
- support future growth and changing energy needs
- improve restoration outcomes during outages
- maintain long-term network capability and safety.
How works are completed
Reconductoring is generally completed in stages and may include:
- planning and site investigations
- vegetation management where required for safety and access
- replacement of existing conductors and associated equipment
- testing and commissioning activities.
Where possible, we work within existing powerline corridors to reduce impacts on surrounding communities and the environment.
How this work may affect you
We sometimes need to schedule planned outages to keep residents and crews safe. If your supply is affected, we’ll notify you in advance; please read your notification carefully, as you may receive more than one if multiple outages are required.
Notifications are sent to the primary account holder. Please share this information with anyone else who may be affected.
Customers will be notified at least three business days before any outage – and in most cases up to 10 business days.
You may notice more heavy vehicles in your area during works. Traffic management will be in place if required., and our teams will contact you directly if access to your property is needed.
We know planned works can be inconvenient. These upgrades will bring improvements to reliability of power supply to the town.
What to expect during works
During works, you may notice:
- Western Power crews and contractor vehicles in the area
- temporary traffic management
- activity on or near existing poles and powerlines
- planned outages scheduled to allow works to be completed safely.
We appreciate your patience as we work to improve the reliability and resilience of the network for your community.
