Technical Rules

The Technical Rules is a document containing technical requirements that must be met by Western Power and all users of the South West Interconnected Network. If you have any queries that are not answered on this page, please contact us.

Economic Regulation Authority (ERA) - Technical Rules Western Power must apply to the ERA to amend its Technical Rules or to apply for an exemption. Amendments approved by the ERA and previous versions of the Technical Rules can be found on the ERA's website.
Technical Code

The Electricity Transmission Access Technical Code was issued in accordance with the Electricity Transmission Regulations 1996.

These documents predated the Technical Rules and are no longer applicable to new connections.  These are included here for information purposes only.

 

Technical Compliance Report (TCR) Technical Compliance Report (TCR) has been prepared with guidelines to assist applicants and users to report Technical Rules compliance.
Technical Rules Exemption Request (TER) The Technical Rules Exemption Request form should be used by Users to seek an exemption or variation to a Technical Rules requirement. Applications are subject to review and approval by Western Power.
Technical Rules Conditional Exemption Notification: Main Switch requirements The Technical Rules Conditional Exemption Notification: Main Switch Requirements general exemption provides an exemption from clause 3.6.7.2(a) to allow multiple main switches for qualifying Inverter Embedded Generation facilities between 30 kVA and 1 MVA aggregate capacity. Subject to review and approval by Western Power.
Technical Rules Conditional Exemption Notification: Multi-residential developments with shared connection The Technical Rules Conditional Exemption Notification: Multi-Residential Developments With Shared Connection  general exemption provides an exemption from clause 3.6 for qualifying residential inverters between 30 kVA and 500 kVA aggregate capacity sharing a connection point. Subject to review and approval by Western Power.
Technical Rules Conditional Exemption Notification: Protection Requirements The Technical Rules Conditional Exemption Notification: Protection Requirements general exemption provides an exemption from clauses 3.6.10.1(a), 3.6.10.1(d) and 3.6.10.1(g) for qualifying inverters between 30 kVA and 1 MVA aggregate capacity. Subject to review and approval by Western Power.
Technical Rules Conditional Exemption Notification: Two phase connections The Technical Rules Conditional Exemption Notification: Two Phase Connection general exemption provides an exemption from clause 3.2.1(d)(2) for qualifying transmission connections. Subject to review and approval by Western Power.
Technical Rules Interpretation Notification: Clause 3.3.4.4 Frequency control Technical Rules Interpretation Notification: Clause 3.3.4.4 Frequency control provides clarification of Technical Rules clause 3.3.4.4(d) addressing dead band requirements for generators above 10 MW.
