We have a Statewide Clearing Permit (CPS 1918) that is used to manage the network. This includes works to meet the needs of the community by building, maintaining and operating an electricity network across the South West Interconnected Network.
During active projects we are open for public feedback due to their potential environmental impact.

Projects closed for submission
Western Power proposes to install the Padbury-Wangara 132kV Transmission Cable Route to support the Clean Energy Link North (CEL-N) transmission network within the north metropolitan area. The project involves the installation of a 132 kilovolt (kV) underground transmission cable from Padbury Substation to Wangara Substation. Clearing under CPS 1918/11 has been approved for vegetation clearing required at Padbury and Wangara Substations. Western Power has determined that additional clearing of up to 0.15 ha is required for the Mitchell Freeway crossing area of the cable route along Whitfords Avenue.
Cumulative clearing impacts for all clearing activities for this project have been considered by Western Power and minimised where possible.

Western Power is undertaking necessary upgrades to the power network to overcome imminent capacity shortfall. Vegetation clearing around the existing substation infrastructure will be required to facilitate the expansion and installation of a new transformer in Yanchep Substation. Up to 0.15ha of native vegetation will be cleared to facilitate this.

Western Power notes the City of Joondalup’s recommendation to include revegetation to offset the clearing of native vegetation. While no revegetation is planned along this route due to the requirement to keep areas cleared for permanent infrastructure, the project is supported by a financial offset to the State Offset Fund and revegetation of temporary cleared areas across the wider Clean Energy Link – North Program. Western Power will continue to review the construction methodology to identify further opportunities to minimise the footprint required for cable installation, along with ongoing consultation with the City of Joondalup planning team regarding the final alignment and coordination of upcoming works by both agencies. |
