Western Power has continued our Bushfire Volunteers Grants program this year and has awarded $45,000 in funding across 43 volunteer bushfire brigades throughout the South West Interconnected System (SWIS) in recognition of the critical role they play in protecting communities and the environment.
Western Power Chief Executive Officer Sam Barbaro said the grants were distributed across 27 local government areas and highlighted Western Power’s commitment to supporting local communities.
“Our grants program serves and recognises the dedicated volunteers who work tirelessly to protect our community from the devastating effects of bushfires,” Mr Barbaro said.
“It enables brigades to purchase additional items such as vehicle recovery equipment, first aid kits, water pumps and complete additional training courses, supporting their ability to safely and effectively carry out firefighting activities.”
Bushfire Volunteers President Lorraine Webster said they are proud to collaborate with Western Power once again to deliver grant funding to both the association and its incredible member brigades across the SWIS.
“The support that Western Power has provided to our members over the years has been invaluable. This has enabled many brigades to procure critical equipment and services and reduce the amount of time our already busy volunteers have to spend fundraising,” she said.
Through the program, Western Power has awarded around $750,000 in funding to volunteer bushfire brigades since it commenced in 2010.
