A $1.4 million package of works to enhance network resilience for the benefit of homes and businesses in the Shire of Quairading has commenced.

The upgrades include replacing 55 poles and over 2km of overhead powerlines, upgrading insulators, installing new LED streetlights and other essential maintenance and will be undertaken by Western Power contractor, Genus.

Western Power Executive Manager of Asset Operations Zane Christmas said the upgrades will help enhance network resilience.

“This important work will reinforce network infrastructure in Quairading, including upgrading equipment and improving the capacity of our assets,” Mr Christmas said.

“We’ll be replacing some sections of overhead wires with covered Aerial Bundle Cable (ABC) which is an insulated conductor that is more durable has a longer service life and helps mitigate against bushfire.

“Some planned power outages will be necessary to complete the upgrades safely and impacted residents and businesses will be notified a minimum of three business days but typically up to 10 business days prior,” Mr Christmas said.

“We understand planned outages can be inconvenient, but we expect these works will bring long-term benefits for the local community.”

Traffic management will be in place to mitigate any impacts as heavy vehicles will be required to complete the work.

The upgrades are scheduled to be completed in late 2025.
