Maylands has become the latest suburb to welcome underground power with Western Power removing hundreds of poles in Perth's eastern suburbs.

Maylands has become the latest suburb to welcome underground power with Western Power removing hundreds of poles in Perth's eastern suburbs.
As part of the State Underground Power Program (SUPP), Western Power removed 445 poles and 24 kilometres of overhead cable and installed 374 LED streetlights within the City of Bayswater.
This means about 3,000 customers will now benefit from improved streetscapes and increased resilience in power supply.
These works follow recently completed upgrades in South Lake East, where the State Government successfully removed 300 power poles and 14 kilometres of overhead cables in Perth's southern suburbs.
As of next year, SUPP will be replaced by the Targeted Underground Power Program (TUPP), in which underground power will be delivered where it is most needed throughout the network.
This won't change the availability of underground power, which will still be available to local governments on a cost-sharing basis with Western Power, local governments and property owners.
