A $3.7 million package of enhancements to strengthen the network and enhance power reliability for homes and business in the Shires of Perenjori and Morawa is now complete.

Western Power Acting Executive Manager of Asset Operations Brett Hovingh said the project focused on upgrading aging equipment to reinforce the network to environmental impacts including storm and bushfire.

“As part of this package of work, we replaced 201 poles and 27.7 kilometres of power lines, and upgraded equipment including insulators and crossarms,” Mr Hovingh said.

“These upgrades have strengthened the local network and enhanced reliability for customers in Perenjori, Bowgada and Koolanooka by increasing the network’s resilience to severe weather.”

When undertaking network upgrades, Western Power always tries to minimise impact on customers.

“During this work, we activated the back-up generator to support customers within Perenjori townsite where possible,” Mr Hovingh said.

“While some outages were unavoidable to complete the work safely, we thank the community for their patience and understanding while these important upgrades were carried out.”

The upgrades are part of the $1 billion investment Western Power makes each year to maintain and upgrade our network to manage safety, reliability and environmental risks.
