Western Power is preparing for forecasted extreme weather associated with Tropical Cyclone Narelle.
We remind the community that if you see any damage to the network, please stay 8 metres clear and make the safe call to Western Power on 13 13 51.
As part of our preparations, we have all available resources on standby including support staff, engineers, network controllers and have mobilised crews to regional locations.
Our priority during storm events is to respond to hazards first - this means if people are experiencing a power outage, crews will attend to make sure potential hazards are made safe and will only return to repair once hazards are addressed. Please be aware that our crews cannot attend or drive during dangerous weather.
If there is wide-spread damage, we prioritise repair and restoration of critical community infrastructure such as hospitals and other emergency services. We assure the community we will safely repair and respond as quickly as we can during what is anticipated to be challenging conditions.
While significant work has been done to prepare the network for storms, causes of safety hazards and power outages during inclement weather include tree branches and debris and household items such as trampolines flying into the network.
We encourage people to take these steps to ensure safety around electricity infrastructure prior to storms including:
securing loose items around homes
ensuring tree canopies on properties are not near poles or wires
making the safe call to Western Power on 13 13 51 if they see any debris on powerlines.
For detailed information on how to prepare for a cyclone, please visit the Department of Fire and Emergency Services website here.
As weather is forecast to be severe, we ask the community to please be patient if you experience an outage. The safety of the community and our crews is paramount.
We would like to remind everyone that, if you see any damage to the network, please stay eight metres clear and make the safe call to Western Power on 13 13 51.
