The Bureau of Meteorology has forecast a severe heatwave warning for parts of Western Australia including the Gascoyne, Central West, Lower West and South West for Tuesday 23 December 2025 to Thursday 25 December 2025.

Extensive summer preparedness and bushfire mitigation work has been done to prepare the network for hot summer conditions, however like all electricity networks we take extra precautions during high temperature weather conditions.

During summer, network settings are adjusted to reduce fire-related risks which means our crews are unable to restore power until bushfire risk eases. This may mean the duration of any unplanned power outages may increase.

We ask people to be patient if they are experiencing an outage during the challenging conditions ahead.

Simple, practical actions can ease pressure on the energy system during peak hours (5–9 pm). Set air conditioners to 24°C for comfort and efficiency. Solar customers: run pool pumps and major appliances during the day, when solar generation is at its peak.

It’s important for people to be prepared should an unplanned outage affect them – such as making sure medical equipment, computers and phone batteries are charged. For more information on what to do during a power outage please visit our outage FAQs

During unplanned outages, we communicate with impacted customers and stakeholders via SMS.

If you see a fallen power line, please stay eight metres away and Make The Safe Call to Western Power on the emergency 24/7 number 13 13 51 so that emergency response crews can attend the hazard to make the area safe.
