A $3.7 million package of work aimed at strengthening the network and enhancing power reliability for homes and business in the Shires of Perenjori and Morawa is underway.

The package of work includes replacing 201 poles and 27 kilometres of power lines and upgrading equipment including insulators and crossarms.

Executive Manager of Asset Operations Zane Christmas said the upgrades will bolster network infrastructure, enhancing reliability for customers in Perenjori, Bowgada and Koolanooka.

“The package of work will upgrade aging equipment to reinforce the network against environmental impacts including storm and bushfire and increase network resilience for the community.”

The upgrades are part of the $1 billion investment Western Power makes each year to maintain and upgrade our network to manage safety, reliability and environmental risks.

“We’re working with the Shires of Perenjori and Morawa to minimise disruption to residents and businesses including putting a traffic management plan in place to help manage traffic flow while the work is undertaken,” Mr Christmas said.

“Some planned power outages will be necessary for the works to be completed safely. Impacted residents and businesses will be notified by Western Power a minimum of three business days but typically up to 10 business days prior so they can plan ahead and prepare.

“The Perenjori back-up generator will support customers within Perenjori townsite where possible during the upgrades but there may be some instances when it’s not possible, due to the location of the works.

“We understand planned works can cause some short-term inconvenience and we thank the community for their patience as we work to reinforce the network infrastructure in the area, bringing long term benefits.”

The package of work is due to be complete in early 2026.
