A $4 million network upgrade is underway in the Shire of Mundaring to enhance network resilience and maintain network safety.

Western Power crews will be in the Darlington area throughout June and July replacing 87 poles, 4.3 kilometres of powerlines, and upgrading streetlights, reclosers, cross arms and insulators.

Executive Manager of Asset Operations, Zane Christmas said these upgrades will result in a more resilient and reliable network.

“The package of work in Darlington includes replacing some sections of overhead wires with covered Aerial Bundle Cable (ABC) which is more durable, has a longer service life, is more resilient to environmental impacts and helps mitigate bushfire risks,” he said.

“It’s part of the $1 billion investment Western Power makes each year to maintain and upgrade our network to manage safety, reliability and environmental risks.”

We are working with the Shire of Mundaring to minimise disruption to residents and businesses including putting a traffic management plan in place to help manage traffic flow while upgrade work is undertaken.

“While we try to avoid planned power outages wherever possible, some will be necessary for the works to be completed safely,” Mr Christmas said.

“Impacted residents and businesses will be notified by Western Power a minimum of three business days but typically up to 10 business days prior so they can plan ahead and prepare as necessary.

“We understand planned works can cause some short-term inconvenience, but we expect these upgrades to bring long-term benefits for the local community.”
