A $3 million package of works to enhance network resilience in Nannup and surrounds is almost complete with 260 poles and 25km of conductor replaced.
Most of the work has been done on the Nannup high voltage line from Yornup to East Nannup.
Western Power Executive Manager of Asset Operations Zane Christmas said the upgrading of assets aimed to improve network infrastructure resilience against major weather events and maintain a high level of network safety.
“Residents in the Shire of Nannup and surrounds will benefit from enhanced network resilience against seasonal and environmental impacts,” Mr Christmas said.
A significant amount of work was completed using Glove and Barrier method which involves safely working on live lines thereby reducing the number of planned outages required.
A Ring Main Unit in the Nannup town site was replaced in one day by a crew from Bridgetown, and a large-scale generator was deployed to reduce the number of extended outages while teams replaced poles and conductor in bulk, replacing up to 4 kilometres of line at a time. Crews from Vasse, Bridgetown, Picton, Pinjarra and Albany depots undertook this work.
“We engaged with the community and stakeholders, including the Shire of Nannup throughout this work to keep all updated,” he said.
“While most of the work has been done, we have small part left to do which was delayed due to severe storm events in January and an abnormal number of total fire ban days in the first three months of the year.
“This has been rescheduled for completion in 2025. We thank the community for their understanding and patience and will keep them informed.”
