A $2.2 million package of works by Western Power to enhance network resilience in Gracetown and Cowaramup in the Shire of Augusta-Margaret River is underway.
The upgrades include replacing 91 poles and over 11.5km of powerlines, upgrading transformers, insulators, crossarms, installing new LED streetlights and other essential maintenance.
Western Power Executive Manager of Asset Operations Zane Christmas said the upgrades will help enhance network resilience, improving reliability.
“This work will reinforce network infrastructure in Gracetown and Cowaramup including upgrading equipment and enhancing the capacity of our assets,” Mr Christmas said.
“We are replacing sections of overhead wire with covered Aerial Bundle Cable (ABC) which is an insulated conductor that is more durable has a longer service life and helps mitigate against bushfire,” he said.
“While we always work to avoid any impact on the community, some planned power outages will be necessary to complete the upgrades safely.”
Impacted residents and businesses will be notified a minimum of three business days but typically up to 10 business days prior so that they can prepare.
“We understand planned outages can be inconvenient in the short term, but we expect these works will bring long-term benefits for the local community,” he said.
Traffic management will be in place to mitigate any impacts as heavy vehicles will be required to complete the work.
The full package of works is scheduled to be completed in late June 2026.
