Respectful and reciprocal relationships with First Nations peoples are the foundation of meaningful reconciliation.
Our First Nations Engagement Strategy sets out a clear and actionable framework for building strong, respectful and mutually beneficial relationships with First Nations peoples and communities across our network.
The strategy was developed as a key RAP deliverable and is grounded in the recognition of First Nations peoples as Traditional Owners and Custodians, whose enduring knowledge and connection to Country are vital to our operations and future growth.
We shaped the strategy through targeted engagement with First Nations stakeholders, ensuring that their perspectives, values and preferred engagement methods are embedded throughout.
It aligns with the Social Performance and Approvals Framework, as well as national and state policies, to ensure that our approach is consistent, culturally informed and responds to evolving expectations.
We promote reconciliation and express this through our annual report and media channels.
During National Reconciliation Week conversations are encouraged across our employee platforms and social media, led by the Walking Together Employee Network Group. In 2026, employees were encouraged to share their commitments to reconciliation via our Reconciliation Wall activity.
Western Power celebrates NAIDOC Week each year, where we honour and recognise the history, culture and achievements of First Nations people. To recognise this important event, we urge our employees to expand their knowledge and understanding of First Nations culture via training and workshops. In addition, we encourage our employees to engage with our partners Clontarf Foundation and Waalitj Foundation.
Our partnerships with Clontarf Foundation and Waalitj Foundation are supporting greater educational and employment outcomes for First Nations school students and ensure we can deliver on the actions in our Reconciliation Action Plan.
We’ve held these partnerships since 2020 and they’re central to identifying and developing diverse talent, resulting in students joining us as lineworkers, automotive mechanics, electricians and business trainees.
