Environmental management
We have a Statewide Clearing Permit (CPS 1918) that is used to manage the network. This includes works to meet the needs of the community by building, maintaining and operating an electricity network across the South West Interconnected Network. The following projects are open for public submissions due to their potential environmental impact.
Projects open for submission
Western Power is undertaking augmentation of the transmission lines and decommissioning a section of line in and around the Cataby Zone Substation, enabling the connection of more wind and solar generation. The project is strengthening the backbone of the network for cleaner reliable and affordable energy system for all. To enable the works, up to 0.80 ha of vegetation clearing is required to provide access, and a safe working area, for work crews and equipment to remove existing poles and string conductors. Wherever and whenever possible we proactively work to minimise clearing and any potential impacts to natural habitat across the SWIS.
Closing date for submissions: 17/11/25

Cataby Substation Lines Augmentation and Access - Vegetation Clearing Assessment Report
Western Power is upgrading the Kondinin Substation in order to meet the required energy supply for Synergy’s King Rocks Windfarm. As part of this upgrade a new transformer is required on the west side of the substation. The proposed clearing of up to 0.18 ha of native vegetation is required for crane access and bushfire protection for the new transformer.
