Environmental management
We have a Statewide Clearing Permit (CPS 1918) that is used to manage the network. This includes works to meet the needs of the community by building, maintaining and operating an electricity network across the South West Interconnected Network. The following projects are open for public submissions due to their potential environmental impact.
Projects open for submission
Western Power is currently upgrading the northern transmission network to enable future connections of large-scale renewable energy generation and increase capacity in the South West Interconnected Network (SWIN). As part of these works, Western Power plans to reconfigure transmission lines around Pinjar Terminal by decommissioning and removing two sections of 132kV transmission line and connect a new 132kV overhead transmission line. Up to 0.8 ha of native vegetation clearing is required to facilitate the decommissioning and construction works.
Closing date for submissions: 10/10/25

Clean Energy Link (CEL) North – Pinjar Terminal Transmission Works - Clearing Assessment Report
Western Power is currently upgrading the northern transmission network to enable future connections of large-scale renewable energy generation and increase capacity in the South West Interconnected Network (SWIN). As part of these works, Western Power is constructing a new 330kV terminal substation at Regans Ford to upgrade part of the network and resupply the existing 132kV Regans substation. The terminal is being constructed in cleared farmland adjacent to Regans substation, however some native vegetation clearing is required to facilitate decommissioning existing overhead transmission lines and construct transmission lines between the new Regans 330kV terminal and the existing 132kV substation. Up to 0.8 ha of native vegetation is proposed to be cleared for this project.

Western Power is building a new bypass arrangement at the Yandin Terminal Substation to support the upgrade of the 132 kV Cataby to Regans 81 transmission line, enabling the connection of more wind and solar generation. The project is strengthening the backbone of the network for cleaner reliable and affordable energy system for all. To enable the construction of the new bypass arrangement, up to 0.68 ha of vegetation clearing is required to provide access, and a safe working area, for work crews and equipment to construct new poles and string conductors. Wherever and whenever possible we proactively work to minimise clearing and any potential impacts to natural habitat across the SWIS.
