SCADA Field Technician – Permanent – South Metro Depot

 

To apply specialist SCADA technical knowledge and skills to provide technical services and coordinate tasks at a complex level of technical requirements for the real-time support and maintenance functions in all operational areas of SCADA Field Telemetry. This will be done to support Western Power’s transmission and distribution power system operations, as well as generation market dispatch and related real-time systems.

 

This role is based at our brand-new state-of-the-art South Metro Depot in Forrestdale, conveniently located next to Tonkin Highway. Spanning across 120,000 square meters. With the latest infrastructure and technology, the depot empowers all employees to create that perfect work-life balance whilst operating in an inclusive and diverse workplace.

 

Your Role in Action  

 

  • Take personal accountability for safety in the work environment and ensure safe work practises are followed and a safe work environment maintained
  • Schedule, plan and prioritise own work relative to the SCADA field work requirements
  • Perform preparation, fault-finding, database configurations, working drawings updates and systems analysis at a complex level of technical requirements
  • Plan and perform complex technical tasks and implement strategies to effectively maintain Western Power’s operational SCADA field telemetry, through making the best use of assigned resources to meet planned outputs
  • Take personal accountability for work performance and be open to others contributions. Work cooperatively within the team and across Western Power
  • Maintain open communication with team members and stakeholders
  • Provide specialist guidance and share technical knowledge and experience to others within the immediate and wider teams
  • Ensure feedback to stakeholders to keep them informed particularly if job not going to plan where appropriate.

 

What Makes You a Great Fit

 

  • Certificate IV (or equivalent) in a relevant Engineering discipline
  • Substation Entry Authority – Level 2
  • Solid experience in highly specialised and or broad industry experience in a real-time, telemetered secondary systems design, commissioning or maintenance role
  • Hold all appropriate industry licences or certificates of competency especially substation inspection, testing, maintenance and repair
  • Specialist technical experience in the following;
    • SCADA systems, including systems administration, database administration, software configuration, system performance and fault investigation and reparation including metering and field transducer reparations
    • Substation secondary systems components including RTU components, HMI’s, PLC’s and other related SCADA telemetry and communications equipment
    • Sound knowledge of relevant SCADA telemetry protocols
    • Strong working knowledge of the application, testing and installation of protection, communications and RTU equipment Regulations and procedures applicable to the section and stream
  • Technical experience in a Networks business, especially within the SCADA area
  • Sound knowledge of Continuous improvement, training and coaching techniques
  • MS Office systems, Word, Excel, Outlook and Access. Ellipse, EDM, and other specialist applications.
