As Head of Engineering & Design at Western Power, you will shape the state’s energy transformation by driving the engineering strategy that supports our transition to a decarbonised grid. Leading a highly capable team, you will design the next generation of transmission and distribution infrastructure that integrates renewables and enables grid innovation. With nearly $12 billion in assets and a workforce of 3,500, Western Power plays a critical role in delivering safe, reliable energy to over two million Western Australians. You will be at the heart of complex, high-impact projects that power the future of the state.
Reporting to the Executive Manager – Asset Management, you will balance technical depth with commercial acumen. Your leadership will guide a multidisciplinary team, influence key stakeholders, and shape strategic decisions — all while maintaining a strong focus on safety, reliability, and long-term sustainability.
Your Role in Action
- Lead engineering design strategy to accelerate Western Power’s decarbonisation and renewable integration.
- Deliver commercially optimised design solutions that maximise capital efficiency and asset value.
- Engage key stakeholders to align engineering outcomes with evolving energy policy and market demands.
- Oversee technical standards and innovation to ensure safety, reliability, and adoption of emerging technologies.
- Build and lead a high-performing team focused on technical excellence and commercial impact.
What Makes You a Great Fit
- Extensive expertise in engineering design, project management, and related policies within complex, regulated environments.
- Proven success leading business units that deliver quality outcomes on schedule and within budget.
- Strong experience managing large, multidisciplinary teams with accountability for contracts and project delivery.
- Deep knowledge of field operations, including construction, commissioning, estimating, and maintenance.
- Sound understanding of risk and compliance management applied to business strategy and operations.
- Outstanding leadership, communication, and influencing skills to drive collaboration and performance.
