The Graduate Development Program is designed to provide an entry pathway to a career at Western Power. The engagement of graduates aligns with our workforce plan, in that it focuses on professional development for graduates to meet the anticipated future needs of the organisation.

Our graduates helped design the microgrid that powers a remote WA community using 100% renewables. No small task, but exactly the kind of future-focused work you’ll help deliver.

From day one, you’ll be trusted to contribute. You’ll work on real projects, solve real problems, and play a part in shaping the energy future of WA.

You’ll be supported by people who care about your growth, and challenged in ways that build your skills, your confidence, and your voice.

This isn’t a program where you watch from the sidelines. It’s a program for changemakers. For people ready to roll up their sleeves, step into real responsibility, and make a real difference - alongside others who are just as passionate as you are.

Over the course of two years, you’ll complete four distinct six-month rotations designed around your individual goals. Each rotation provides exposure to diverse teams, disciplines, and real-world projects—giving you the opportunity to explore your strengths, broaden your technical expertise, and shape your ideal career path. Our program is more than a stepping stone - it’s a launchpad for a dynamic career that grows with you.

Our approach to learning: The 70:20:10 framework

Your development follows a proven learning model:

• 70% from hands-on experience - working on real projects, solving problems, and making decisions.
• 20% through connection - learning from your buddy, peers, mentors and the wider business network
• 10% from formal learning - online courses, expert-led workshops, and self-paced.

How we support you

• Buddy (every rotation): A peer who’ll help you settle in, navigate challenges, and make the most out of each rotation.
• Mentoring (Sparks Program): Matched with an experienced professional who’ll support your development and career journey.
• Monthly lunch and learns: Open conversations with leaders across Western Power - insights, stories, and lessons from people shaping our strategy and living our values.
• Networking & social events: Run by our Graduate Committee, you’ll connect with fellow grads and the broader business through regular events, workshops, and collaboration platforms.
• Onsite field experience: Understanding how we operate on the ground is just as important as the work behind the scenes.
• Professional membership: Eligible grads can apply for paid membership to professional bodies to support their continued development.
• Learning resources: Unlimited access to technical training, expert networks, and platforms like LinkedIn Learning to build your skills.
• Core skill workshops: Boost your communication, influence, emotional intelligence, project delivery, and creative thinking - skills that matter in any role.

We welcome graduates from a wide range of disciplines:

Engineering Graduates

Electrical, Civil, Power Systems, Mechatronics, Telecommunications or Electronics Engineering

Technology Graduates

Computer Science, Information Technology (IT), Data Science or Data Analytics, Cyber Security, Software Engineering or Information Systems.

Business Graduates

Human Resources, Occupational Health and Safety, Environmental Science, Project Management, Data Analytics, Accounting, Finance, Commerce, Supply Chain, Contract Management, Construction Management, or Business Administration.
