New solar bench built by Cecil Andrews College students

Our CEO, Ed Kalajzic, recently visited Cecil Andrews College to congratulate students on their innovation and commitment to designing and building a solar energy bench for the College.

Mr Kalajzic said it was fantastic to see first-hand the collaboration between College students and Western Power technical experts who advised students from design, build to commissioning.

“It’s great to see young students engage in real-world problems and turn a concept into a useable and innovative solution,” he said.

Western Power supported the students by providing funding and expertise through our Entry Level programs, which aim to spark an interest in students interested or participating in a study path, and potentially a career, into electrotechnology.

Interesting Fact: Cecil Andrews College has been recognised as a finalist in the most prestigious Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts and Maths (STEAM) award in Western Australia for the second year in a row called the Governor STEAM Awards. The second phase of judging was completed recently where the solar bench project featured highlighting industry involvement and forging educational pathways for the energy sector (the students completed units relating to Cert II – Electrotechnology).   They will find out this month if they win.
