Senior Protection Engineer: Permanent Full Time - Perth Office CBD
We are seeking a Senior Protection Engineer to leverage your extensive specialist knowledge and engineering expertise in power system protection and automatic control. In this role, you will deliver competitive designs, develop settings, and provide project and contract management while ensuring adherence to industry best practices. Your Role in Action
- Undertake electrical engineering protection design and settings work of high complexity including automatic control for assigned projects, determining CT/VT performance requirements, and undertaking system modelling and fault studies
- Prepare detailed scopes and overall estimates for the protection and automatic control component of the full range of transmission projects (of all levels of complexity) and coordinate with other specialist groups
- Prepare detailed engineering specifications, analyse tenders, manage contracts and initiate purchase of protection and automatic control equipment
- Provide engineering consultancy advice to internal stakeholders and external customers to assist them in options analysis, risk analysis, scope definition and protection implementation for the full range of transmission projects (of all levels of complexity)
- Review customer/IPP protection designs and settings for compliance with Technical Codes;
- Have significant input into new technologies and new designs applicable to protection and automatic control
- Influence protection and automatic control standards and relevant sections of Technical Codes
- Develop, implement and ensure compliance with detail design & setting standards by all associated resources
- Analyse and report on malfunctioning of protection and automatic control equipment;
- Deliver services to commercially competitive standards for technical excellence, safety, environmental quality, cost and customer satisfaction
- Operate commercially and competitively in meeting quality, time and budget standards. Also drive value in the business and ensure delivery of risk managed outputs
What Makes You a Great Fit
- Degree in electrical engineering recognised by Engineers Australia as satisfying the academic requirements for appointment as a professional engineer
- Eligibility for corporate membership of Engineers Australia
- Extensive knowledge of transmission and distribution protection settings and design, automatic control and statistical metering systems design and estimating processes
- Sound knowledge of power system primary and secondary facilities
- High level understanding and knowledge of engineering standards, regulations, Technical Rules and procedures applicable to protection schemes
- Knowledge of current technological developments in the field of protection, automatic control and statistical metering
- Valid WA Driver’s License Class ‘C’ or ‘C-A
