Principal Engineer – Permanent Full Time – Perth Office
We are looking for a highly skilled and experienced Principal Engineer to join our Engineering & Design team. In this pivotal role, you will provide technical leadership in developing efficient and effective engineering solutions for distribution lines, plant, and equipment. You will also be required to develop and maintain distribution design standards and ensure compliance to relevant industry standards.
Your expertise will guide internal teams and the broader Western Power community, offering advice on engineering techniques, industry standards, and innovative practices in the field of distribution lines, cables, and plant. You will be instrumental in driving excellence and fostering continuous improvement within the engineering function.
Your Role in Action
- Provide technical leadership and engineering services.
- Develop standards, documents, manuals, and guidelines and maintain compliancy with Australian standards.
- Collaborate with internal and external engineering and construction stakeholders to ensure the development of required systems.
- Embed external standards or regulatory requirements into all applicable aspects of the Distribution network.
- Solve advanced technical or business problems through complex troubleshooting, interpretation of specialised standards and ingenuity in making connections that are not obvious to others.
- Target business benefits and improved outcomes for customers (internal or external), generating creative new ideas for applying new or existing solutions, practices, or processes.
- Develop innovative methods or processes in distribution plant and equipment.
- Provide leadership to others to ensure the root causes of design and equipment problems are identified and improvements are standardised across the section and other parts of Western Power where relevant.
What Makes You a Great Fit
- Tertiary qualification in Electrical Engineering – essential
- Eligible for membership of the Institution of Engineers Australia – essential
- Broad and extensive technical experience in a network business associated with the design and construction of Distribution network facilities.
- At least 15 years’ experience in a utility networks design business including at least 7 years’ experience in substantial distribution design, standards, and plant.
- Extensive knowledge of engineering standards and regulations for distribution networks
- Demonstrated commitment to safety.
- Strong communication skills and customer focus
- Ability to assess risks and provide solutions issues on distribution network designs and standards.
- Extensive experience in high voltage distribution line support structure loading, design, and foundations
- Extensive experience in electrical overhead line and underground cable engineering at distribution voltages
- Extensive experience and understanding of distribution plant and equipment.
