Select a tree professional
If your trees require trimming we recommend you hire a professional tree pruner or arborist as it is very dangerous to trim trees anywhere near powerlines. It's not a DIY job.
By law, no person or equipment is permitted within three metres of a powerline without proper certification or training. The Tree Guild of WA has a list of arborists that are qualified to work near powerlines.
Choosing the right arborist
Find out more about choosing the right arborist using the Tree Work brochure.
Tree work operations (arboriculture) require a high degree of technical competence, training and experience. It should only be done by professional arborists, as unqualified arborists can cause:
- injury to people
- damage to property
- irrevocable damage to your trees
Make sure your professional tree pruner has the following qualifications:
- training in accordance with code of practice for ‘Personnel electrical safety for vegetation control work near live powerlines’, issued by EnergySafety WA.
- pruning of amenity trees AS4373 (2007)
