Vacation employment and scholarships

Western Power provides scholarship and vacation employment opportunities for undergraduates studying or intending to study electrical engineering. Opportunities for civil (structural) engineering students also occur.

Two scholarships are awarded each year: Stuart Morgan Scholarship and Bruce Kirkwood Memorial Scholarship.

The Stuart Morgan Scholarship targets Year 12 students who live in country WA and intend to pursue a degree course in technology, commerce or electrical engineering at a Perth university.

The Bruce Kirkwood Memorial Scholarship targets students enrolled at Curtin University of Technology or University of Western Australia (UWA) who intend to pursue a career in electrical power engineering.

Vacation employment

Western Power employs mainly electrical engineering students over the summer academic break. Preference is given to students approaching their final year of undergraduate studies and who show an interest in working in the electrical power industry on graduation.

Applications from civil (structural) students are also welcome.

To be successful you will, for the majority of positions, be undertaking power engineering units.

You will also:

  • Be available for work from late November 2006 to early February 2007.
  • Hold a current drivers licence.
  • Be able to work anywhere in the metropolitan area.
  • Be eligible to work in Australia (proof maybe required).

During the employment you will work on projects relating to electrical power engineering.  This is a fantastic way to gain ‘practical experience’ in your chosen field.

How to apply

You will need to apply online for vacation employment. Please ensure you provide the required information and documentation. You will need:

  • a short covering letter;
  • your résumé;
  • an electronic scan of your university course results to date (including individual subject scores); and
