In the 15th Annual Western Power Solar Model Car Challenge Belridge Senior High School’s car two won the 2006 Western Power Solar Model Car Challenge held today in Forrest Place.
Morley Senior High School’s car one finished second followed by Belridge High School’s car one and three finishing third and fourth respectively.
It’s a hat trick of victories for the Belridge High School as they won the 2004 and 2005 State titles.
All four teams travel to Sydney to compete in the national titles on December 1 and 2 2006.
Belridge High School’s car three was the fastest qualifier, Shenton College’s car two team won the best poster prize and the best team effort award was presented to Aquinas College.
A total of 41 cars from 23 schools competed in the two-day event under sunny clear skies.
Since the start of Western Power’s Solar Model Car Challenge in 1992, more than 3250 secondary school students have participated in the event, with 680 solar-powered model cars.
Down the road at the World of Energy in Fremantle, the inaugural Western Power Solar Boat Challenge was held at the same time as the solar car event.
Gooseberry Hill Primary School’s boat two won the event followed by Parkfield Primary School in second place, Gooseberry Hill Primary School’s boat three came third and Boyare Primary School finished in fourth place.
Gooseberry Hill Primary School’s boat two also won the fastest qualifier title, best poster award was won by South Perth Primary School and Millen Primary School was presented with the best team effort prize.
Beaconsfield Primary School won the World of Energy all round prize.
The event attracted 25 teams from 15 schools and was held outdoors with perfect sailing conditions prevailing.
Gooseberry Hill Primary School and Parkfield Primary School will be in Sydney for the national titles at the same time as the solar car event.
