Unless we all help out we could black out

System Load

Times shown on the graph do not include daylight savings. Add one hour to graph times.

Together, we can prevent an unexpected shortage becoming an outage.

Western Power is the business responsible for managing and operating the electricity system. This means that Western Power coordinates the supply from private and publicly owned power stations to meet the demand for electricity consumers.

Right now, the system is under pressure because there is a dramatic shortage of gas for power generators due to a fault on the North West Shelf Gas Plant and Western Power has to ask everyone to reduce their use. If we all use less electricity right now there should be enough power for all.

Recommendations

  1. Turn off all non essential appliances and lighting
  2. If possible avoid using air-conditioners
  3. If an air conditioner is essential set it to 24 degrees or above
  4. Close windows and blinds to stop the home heating up
  5. Turn off all appliances at the wall
