Corporate governance

Western Power is a statutory corporation established by the Electricity Corporations Act 2005 (WA) (Act). It is owned by the State Government of Western Australia and is accountable to the Minister for Energy (Minister).

The board of directors of Western Power (Board) recognises the importance of good corporate governance to the stakeholders of Western Power and has established a corporate governance framework to prescribe the standards of behaviour for its officers and employees to ensure compliance with applicable legislation and promote stakeholders’ confidence in Western Power.

In addition, although it is not a company listed on the Australian Securities Exchange and as such is not subject to the ASX Listing Rules, Western Power has voluntarily chosen to comply with the standards recommended by the ASX Corporate Governance Council in the ASX Corporate Governance Principles and Recommendations (second edition, August 2007) (ASX Principles), where appropriate and relevant in Western Power’s circumstances. The ASX Principles compliance checklist details Western Power’s compliance with the ASX Principles.

This corporate governance section provides an overview of the fundamental principles of Western Power’s corporate governance framework.
