Each year Volunteer Bush Fire Brigades are invited to apply for a grant of up to $5,000. Applications will open on 4 November and close on 12 December 2008. Because of the overwhelming response to the grants in 2007/08, all applications will be reviewed and grants allocated on the basis of their strategic merit.
Western Power is the proud sponsor of a three-year, $300,000 commitment to assist Volunteer Bush Fire Brigades of WA working within the south west electricity network. The funding involves grants, website support and assistance with Fire and Emergency Services (FESA) bushfire forums, benefiting all volunteer firefighters within the South West Interconnected System.
This sponsorship is part of Western Power's commitment to building stronger links with the community and recognises the incredible work of WA's unsung heroes, our volunteer fire fighters who work tirelessly in our community throughout bushfire season.
Brigades are encouraged to apply for funds that will improve their level of service to their local community. Brigades cannot apply for funding for items that may be purchased under the Emergency Services Levy or if they received funding during the first year of this program (2007/08).
Western Power's Managing Director, Doug Aberle, the Association for Volunteer Bush Fire Brigades of WA and FESA joined together to launch the second year of this sponsorship at the Serpentine Volunteer Bush Fire Brigade on 3 November 2008.
