Generator and transmission connections
The information below applies to large generators. If you need to connect a home or business to the network using a generator, refer to business or residential connections section of our website.
As the only transporter of electricity in the South West, we provide access to our electricity network to allow retailers and consumers to transport electricity from one location to another via generators.
New connections
Network access application forms must include accurate technical information and should be completed with assistance from an electrical consultant or generator manufacturer.
How to apply for access to our network
- before submitting an application familiarise yourself with the technical rules
- email the application form with attachments to the networks access team
- we will prepare a proposal outlining the expected cost of processing the application for your approval
Note: The time required to process an application depends on its complexity. The minimum time for basic applications to reach the access offer stage is three months, while more complex applications can take up to 18 months.
Capital contribution policy
Applicants may need to contribute to the cost of interconnection works required for new connections.

Access arrangement
Our Access arrangement outlines how to access the SWIS and is approved by the Economic Regulation Authority.
