The Power Down Ranger online game is designed to help educate children about how to use energy wisely at home, particularly between 4 and 9pm and help mum and dad save money on the power bill.
The game is designed to achieve two objectives:
Learning outcomes:
Children can understand how to be wise with energy in their home.
Children will also be able to make the connections between types of appliances, their personal behaviour and carbon production.
Adults including parents and teachers can learn how they can assist their child to implement improvements in their home to save money and reduce their household's carbon footprint.
Five rooms and backyard – Navigate using the green arrows or by clicking on individual rooms in the house navigation, on the right of the screen.
Appliances – Any appliance can be selected, and with a little adult help a more accurate picture of energy use in your home can be achieved.
Carbon rating cloud – Each appliance has an individual annual carbon rating which will be added to the cloud on the right. ( Carbon ratings are based on Synergy's Energy Calculator. )
Questions - To clearly understand a household's carbon footprint, all questions must be answered. This will also ensure a Power Down certificate can be created upon completion of the game.
Appliance information - When the curser is placed over an appliance for selection, a description about appliances appears in the box on the right.
Did you know – When appliances are selected new "Power Down" energy efficiency information appears in the box at the bottom.
Certificate – The certificate earned at the completion of the game contains a star rating out of 10 determined by your energy efficient behaviour. The column on the right congratulates energy efficient behaviour and the left hand column lists things that can be done to be more efficient in the home, helping children to achieve a higher star rating.
