Spotting safety issues at home

Check out this picture of a family at home in their living room (PDF 1mb). There are 10 ways that they might get an electric shock – can you find them all?

Did you find them all?

Here are the answers:

  1. The baby chewing the computer cord – never put anything which uses electricity in your mouth!
  2. Child standing on power point and swinging on light – never stand on or pull an electrical fitting or a power cord!
  3. Vase on the television – never put anything that will have water around it on or near an electrical appliance!
  4. Extension cord by the coffee cup – electricity and water do not mix!
  5. Flower pot on the shelf by the radio – you guessed it! Electricity and water do not mix!
  6. Smoking plugs near lamp – the adaptor is overloaded – only put one plug in each socket
  7. Computer cord across doorway – never leave power cords where people might trip over them
  8. Loose wiring on the television – never touch an exposed wire!
  9. Grandpa’s fishing rod in the powerlines (in his dream)
  10. Open socket plug where the boy is swinging – use a safety plug when power points are not being used (what is a safety plug? It’s a plug that you put in the socket when it’s not in use to prevent objects from being pushed into the socket)
