Project update/Latest news
This project forms part of the Bunbury-Busselton-Margaret River Project Suite, however is not required as early as the other projects. Hence, the project team are not currently focussing on this part of the project suite just yet.
Project description
Currently Margaret River Substation is supplied via a 66,000 volt transmission line from Bunbury Substation. This line is ageing and due for replacement within the next 10 years. Margaret River is also a region experiencing strong growth and, as such, there is a need to provide for increasing electricity demand.
Previously it was proposed to replace the existing transmission line with a 132,000 volt transmission line. However when the Global Financial Crisis hit, our forecasts for electricity demand were lowered and considering the timing of required asset replacement, it was deemed prudent to meet demand in the short term by transferring load through the distribution (low voltage) network instead of building a new transmission line. Options for completing this network reinforcement will be explored further in the coming years.
