Northern Terminal to Hadfields transmission line

Update June 2011

Since our last update, further network investigations have indicated that reinforcement works will not be required as early as first expected. At this stage we do not expect to need to continue work on this project for another couple of years; in the meantime we will be continuing to review the needs of the network in order to be prepared to respond to changing circumstances.

The line was to be for the most part constructed on the road reserve, using a combination of wooden and steel poles.

When the time comes to recommence the project, the location of the line will need to be reviewed to take into account current circumstances.

Project History

To allow for increasing energy demand in the metropolitan area, Western Power must reinforce the electricity network. The new line will improve reliability for existing Bassendean and Bayswater residents, and provide for future power demands in the area.

It is proposed that this project will include the following elements:

  1. The construction of a new transmission line to connect the Northern Terminal substation (in Malaga) with the Hadfields substation (in Bassendean)
  2. The extension of the existing Hadfields substation towards Guildford Road to allow for the connection of the new transmission line.

It was originally thought that this would be completed by the end of 2011.
