Our infrastructure
We operate and maintain the network also known as the SWIS (South West Interconnected System), The SWIS reaches from Albany in the south, Kalbarri in the north and Kalgoorlie in the east.
Network – facts and figures
Our network:
- consists of around 96,000 km of powerlines
- about 21 terminal substations
- about 120 (and growing) zone substations
- around 13,500 distribution substations
- around 330 voltage regulator sites
- powers more than 965,000 homes every day
- provides power to over 1.5 million homes in the SWIS
- powers approximately 225,000 streetlights
- is one of the largest, most isolated networks in the world
Substations
Substations form an important part of the electricity network, providing power to you every time a light switch or appliance is turned on.
