Replacement of overhead service connections

Western Power Networks will replace all overhead service connections in metropolitan and country areas over the next seven years, to improve their safety and reliability.

The overhead service connection is the cable between the pole in the street and your house or building. You may not have one if you are in an underground area, or if you have an underground ‘pole to pillar’ connection.

While we are doing this work we are also checking the customer’s mains connection box, the carry over pole (if there is one) and the height of the service wire, to make sure they are all safe.

If we are planning this work in your area, we will give you a letter and brochure describing the process about a month before we start.  When we do the work, it may be necessary to turn off your power for about two hours.  If so, we will let you know three days beforehand.

Many customers are using this as an opportunity to replace their Overhead Service Connection with an underground cable (pole to pillar).  Although this will incur costs an underground connection has several benefits.
