Some customers are asked to read their own meter. This is usually because they live in a remote area and it is not cost-effective for Western Power to read the meter every two months.
Western Power mails a self-addressed, postage paid card to each self-read customer. The customer uses the card to record the meter reading and posts it back to Western Power.
If you don't live at the property concerned, and would like your read card to be sent to another address please call Synergy on 13 13 53 (Between 7.00 am and 7.00 pm Monday to Friday)
Cards are mailed out every two months, and the customer is given 10 working days to mark and return the card.
If cards are not returned by the due date, Western Power estimates the reading based on previous electricity use.
If your property has a dial meter complete the self-read card as follows:
If your property has a digital meter simply record the reading showing on the meter within the squares on the card.
If your property has an electronic meter, complete the self-read card as follows:
For those meters on a standard residential or commercial tariff (A1, L1, K1 or M1), where the registers stay static you simply write down the numbers that are displayed.
If the register moves through a sequence of displays or channels, the number you need to write down depends on what tariff you are on. For more information see how to read your meter.
If a property has more than one meter, or you have several properties, you will receive a self-read car for each meter. Please make sure you match the number on the card with the correct meter.
Self-read cards should be returned (postage paid) to:
