Bushfires

Rural and semi-rural areas are particularly susceptible to bushfires. Even the slightest contact between trees and powerlines can cause sparks and start a fire with devastating consequences for people, assets and the environment.

Western Power works closely with local authorities and emergency services using a number of strategies to help protect high-risk areas. These include a program to apply silicon to high voltage insulators to prevent pole-top fires, aerial patrols and a vegetation management program.

You can help by ensuring trees and vegetation on your property are kept well clear of electricity infrastructure such as powerlines and power poles. Visit these pages for more information on vegetation management and bushfire management.
