Safety near green domes

In areas where underground power has been installed a pillar or ‘green dome’ is located just inside the property, close to the front and side boundary.

  • The green dome contains ‘live’ electrical components. Never touch exposed wires. Report damage to Western Power on 13 13 51.
  • Keep a distance of 25 centimetres clear between the dome and the fence line (side and front of your property) and a minimum distance of 1 metre from the outside of the dome around the remainder. See image below.

Green domes should be 2.5 meters away from the fence line and 1 meter away from everything else.

  • Western Power workers need easy access to green domes. Do not enclose the dome, surround with a wall or conceal with rose bushes or other vegetation.
  • Do not bury the dome in soil or other materials, as this will prevent access to it in an emergency or for maintenance. It may also force water into the dome and the electrical circuitry.
  • Do not allow children to play on or with green domes.
  • Do not dig around domes.
  • Do not build over green domes.

Winter safety tips

  • Check your electric blanket for damaged wires, plugs and leads. If it’s damaged replace it immediately.
  • Don't put fan heaters in areas with restricted airflow. They may overheat and cause a fire.
