To meet the rapidly growing demand for power in East Perth and Perth CBD, Western Power will be installing 11 kV underground cables in the area.
The new underground cables will provide safe and reliable power to the residents and businesses in the City of Perth and East Perth and allow for continued growth and development of the region.
The cables will allow power from Western Power's existing Milligan Street, Hay Street and Forrest Ave substations to be distributed throughout the Perth CBD and East Perth area.
Work to install the underground cables is being undertaken in two stages:
Stage one
Stage one commenced on 4 August 2008 with preliminary surveys and the locating of existing underground services along the proposed cable route. This work is anticipated to take 4 to 6 weeks to complete.
Once the survey information has been gathered and a final cable route selected, Western Power will, in consultation with the City of Perth, obtain the necessary permits to allow the undergrounding work to take place.
Stage two
Undergrounding of the cables is scheduled to begin in early 2009 and is expected to take about 6 months to complete. Further information will be provided to the City of Perth and key stakeholders once the final cable route design has been confirmed.
We will keep the community and key stakeholders informed regarding the progress of this project by distributing project brochures, posting public notices in local newspapers and updated project information will be available on the Western Power website.
