Public consultation

The corridor selection process includes key stages where Western Power invites and encourages input from decision-making authorities, representative groups and from members of the community.

Local residents from Dongara point out local landmarks to Ian Buchanan (Western Power)"This is the first time we have gone to a community and said we need to connect power from point A to point B, and we want the community, to tell us which path we should take," said Western Power Major Projects Coordinator Ian Buchanan.

Response to community issues

The community workshops undertaken in February/March 2007 provided Western Power with a valuable opportunity to listen to community concerns and to incorporate suggestions into the project planning process.

All of the constraints that attendees mapped on the sheets in workshop session 2 have been analysed and the corridors have been refined in light of this feedback. Western Power is currently sending this amended corridor options plan to attendees of the workshops.

Some of the issues that attendees at the workshops raised relate to detailed stages of the project beyond the corridor selection process, most notably at the line route, design, construction and operational stages.
