Western Power has been engaged by the Claremont Joint Venture and the Town of Claremont to underground the power line along Gugeri Street, between Leura Avenue and Stirling Road as detailed in figure 1 below.

Figure 1: Claremont underground power route
A portion of the overhead powerline was relocated from the south side of Gugeri
Street to the north side of Gugeri Street in mid 2007 so work could start on the
construction of the Claremont Village. Western Power undertook this work as a
commissioned project and did not contribute financially.
Western Power will avoid major work during the Royal Show and the Christmas period to limit disruptions caused by the underground cabling project. The schedule of work was created in consultation with the Claremont Joint Venture, the Town of Claremont and the Public Transport Authority.

| February - March 2009 | Connection of underground cable. Removal of overhead poles and lines. |
* subject to change
The underground cable project will be carried out in two phases:
Phase one
Phase one will involve the installation of the underground power cables within Gugeri Street and the installation of one steel pole (see figure 2 on the brochure) at each end of the underground cable. The underground cable will run for approximately 585 metres.
Phase one will take up to eight weeks to complete.
Phase two
Phase two will include the removal of the existing overhead lines and poles, including the temporary poles installed in 2007. Once the underground cable is connected to the network in February 2009, Western Power will remove the designated poles and lines for good, transforming the appearance of Claremont.
There will be some changes to bus routes along Gugeri Street during the underground cable project during October and November, 2008. For details on affected bus routes please visit the Travel Smart website:
http://www.travelsmart.gov.au/; or the Public Transport Authority website:
http://www.pta.wa.gov.au/
Information will also be available at affected bus stops.
The underground power project will require the implementation of a traffic management plan (approved by the Town of Claremont) during October and November. East bound traffic along Gugeri Street, between Leura Ave and Stirling Road, is planned to be closed during this period.
Night work
Due to the close proximity to the rail line, some of the work will be conducted at night, eliminating interruptions to rail services. This work will not impact local residences.
Local businesses will receive advice regarding the timing of the night work.
There will be no power interruptions associated with this process.
