Clarence street zone substation upgrade

Clarence street substation

As part of its commitment to improve the quality and reliability of power in the South Perth area and to cater for future development needs, Western Power has upgraded its Clarence Street zone substation in South Perth.

The demand for power from the Clarence Street zone substation has increased at an average annual rate of five to six percent over recent years. The upgrade to the zone substation was required not only to meet the increasing demand but also to replace some equipment, which was nearing the end of its service life.

Upgrade works complete

Western Power has now completed the installation of the upgraded equipment, which is housed in a new switch room.

This equipment is now in-service and will provide a safer and more reliable power supply to South Perth and its neighbouring suburbs.

To provide a more pleasant outlook and improved security for the facility, both the existing and recently constructed brick walls surrounding the substation have been rendered in a cream finish. Australian native plants have been planted around the substation perimeter and it is anticipated that this vegetation will continue to grow and establish itself over the winter period.

Security

To provide improved security for the facility a 0.5 metre palisade security topping has been erected on top of the wall to deter unauthorised access. The palisade has been painted a cream colour to match the surface of the wall, which has been treated with an anti-graffiti treatment..
