In January 2006 Western Power installed a 132,000 Volt (132 kV) underground cable between Grand Promenade and Drake Street in Bayswater. A 19-metre transition pole has been installed at each end of the cable line to connect it to the existing overhead powerlines.
At the Drake Street end of the cable it is also necessary to install an 18-metre 'tee-pole' (see diagram below) to provide additional support for the transition pole. The pole will be installed in late May 2006.
Final earth works are due to commence on 10 July 2006. The project is expected to be completed by mid-July 2006.
The works are part of Western Power's network reinforcement program and are necessary to maintain the reliability and quality of power supply in the area.
See below for simulated photo representations of Drake Street once the project is completed.
