Kemerton Substation and the surrounding area are home to a large population of the rare and threatened Dwarf Hammer Orchid (Drakaea micrantha). This species was first identified on the site in 2000, with supplementary populations located through ongoing flora surveys of the area.

This site is also home to two additional priority flora species, Acacia semitrullata and Dillwynia dillwynioides, further supporting the sites conservation significance.
To ensure the areas conservation values are not compromised, the site is part of Western Power’s Environmentally Sensitive Area (ESA) Program. This program ensures Western Power employees and contractors are made aware of special environmental requirements at worksites, ensuring compliance with environmental legislation and stakeholder requirements.
Initial management of the site will include the installation of a perimeter fence around the 100-hectare site to prevent unauthorised access that may result in damage to the local environment.
Western Power is proud to be working with the Department of Environment and Conservation to protect the rare and threatened flora species located at Kemerton Substation and the surrounding area.
