Three-phase power - how much will it cost?

A - If your area has overhead powerlines

When upgrading to three-phase power we recommend you convert to an underground connection.   The cost will include:

  • $681 for a subsidised residential connection, if eligible
  • the cost of a three-phase meter (arranged and billed through your electricity retailer); plus
  • your electrical contractor's costs to run an underground cable from the pillar to the meter box and any changes necessary to the internal wiring.

In some circumstances, it is possible to retain an overhead supply.  If so, the cost will include:

  • $300 for a  three-phase overhead service cable; plus
  • the cost of a three-phase meter (arranged through your electricity retailer).

Please discuss this with your electrical contractor, or call us on 13 10 87.

B - If your area has underground power

If your connection is in an underground area, the cost will include:

  • the cost of a three-phase meter (arranged through your electricity retailer); plus
  • your electrical contractor's costs to upgrade the cable from the pillar to the meter box and any changes necessary to the internal wiring.

Note: Make sure your electrical contractor has the necessary accreditation to make the connection to our pillar, or our crews will need to connect the supply, adding $300 to the cost.

A and B - Further costs may be incurred if

  • there is insufficient capacity on the local network or
  • the local network is only single-phase (this may apply in rural and outlying metro areas)

This will become evident when we assess your electrical contractor's application for a power upgrade.
