Commercial

You will need a new commercial power connection if:

  • You are setting up a new business (including a small business in a residential area) and require a supply of more than 32 Amps three-phase or 63 Amps single-phase
  • Your business is moving to premises which have not previously had a commercial power connection
  • You are developing a commercial or industrial subdivision

Many businesses require three-phase power.  To find out if three-phase power is available in the area, call 13 10 87 or make an online enquiry

How to apply

For all connections to the distribution network at 33kV or less, please complete a Design and Quotation Application form.  An electrical contractor/consultant will need to be engaged to complete a Design and Quotation Application form.

If your operation will be connected to the transmission network, at 66kV or more, your electrical contractor or consultant should complete a Transmission Load Application form (XSL 328kb).

Western Power standard supply

Western Power defines standard supply at 240 V single-phase or 440 V three-phase as:

  • 63 Amps single-phase (urban areas)
  • 32 Amps single-phase (rural areas and towns)
  • 32 Amps multi-phase
  • a maximum consumer mains size of 35mm²

The cost for more than a standard supply can vary, as the surrounding network may need to be upgraded to meet the capacity requirements. This upgrade could include the installation of transformers, switchgear and conductors, resulting in significant additional cost.

A commercial supply is calculated on a 200kVa per hectare as a minimum requirement.

Who is your Electricity Retailer?

You buy electricity from an electricity retailer.  They manage your account and send your electricity bill.  Western Power transports electricity through the network, but does not sell it.

  • If you use less than 50MWh a year (that's about 137 units a day or $8000 worth of electricity a year), your electricity retailer is Synergy.  You can go to their website or call 13 13 53.
  • If you use more than 50MWh a year, you may choose your electricity retailer and negotiate your tariff.   The Office of Energy provides a list of electricity retailers.
