Greenhouse strategy

We are developing a Greenhouse Strategy in response to the challenge of climate change. We aim to go beyond mere compliance with legislative requirements  to account for our emissions by identifying opportunities to reduce emissions: our own and those related to the operation of the SWIS.

Western Power is liable under the National Greenhouse and Energy Reporting Act (NGERA) to annually report its energy and greenhouse gas emissions from June 2008. In the past Western Power voluntarily reported this data under the former Greenhouse Challenge Plus program (GCP).

The NGERA underpins the introduction of legislation to reduce Australia’s long-term greenhouse emissions including the proposed Carbon Pollution Reduction Scheme (CPRS) and the Renewable Energy Target (RET). The intent of these policies is to reduce emissions and they have the potential to change the generation mix within the Wholesale Electricity Market (WEM) over the long-term. We will remain engaged with stakeholders to work through impacts required to achieving the desired Greenhouse Gas reductions.
