At Christmas

View 2009 Christmas Card

Below is Western Power’s take on the traditional 12 days of Christmas. There may not be a partridge or a pear tree, but we think this version will give you much more joy this Christmas, reducing your power bill and doing your bit for the environment.

  1. Set your air conditioner to 24 degrees (or higher).
  2. Close curtains, windows and doors to keep out the heat.
  3. Turn your pool pump on before 4pm and after 9pm.
  4. Turn your Christmas tree lights off when we go to bed.
  5. Use LED or solar powered decorations instead.
  6. Use candles instead of Christmas lights, but remember to blow them out and don’t use them in your tree!
  7. Use energy efficient fibre optic lights
  8. When cooking your Christmas feast use efficient cooking methods such as putting lids on pots and simmering gently instead of vigorously boiling.
  9. Buy battery free prezzies or rechargeable batteries.
  10. Buy five star energy rated gifts.
  11. Fully load your dishwasher and turn it on before 4pm or after 9pm.
  12. And when the party’s over turn your entertainment appliances off at the power point.
