Proactive upgrade to a 42 W CFL
Western Power's streetlight range now includes the 42 W Compact Fluorescent Luminaires (42 W CFL).
Under its maintenance programs, Western Power will change existing 80W Mercury Vapour luminaires to 42 W CFL when luminaires (streetlight heads) are found to have failed and cannot be repaired.
In addition, Local Governments can pay to upgrade working streetlights to 42 W CFL.
How to apply
To request a proactive upgrade to a 42 W CFL in your shire, town or city, an Application for unmetered supply form (PDF 139kb) must be submitted.
This type of upgrade request is only available for existing Western Power owned streetlights and cannot be combined with a request for other modifications or a relocation.
The table in Part A of the application form (page three) must be completed and accompanied by a site plan. The site plan should be a scaled map showing the position, size and type of streetlights, with street names and the site address clearly labelled. In submitting the site plan, the customer accepts responsibility for the location of the lights.
Western Power will send you an acknowledgement letter within 10 working days of receiving your application. If you do not receive a written acknowledgement within this timeframe, please call our Customer Service Centre on 13 10 87.
When completing the application please refer to Australian Standard 1158 - lighting for roads and public spaces and include with your site plan:
- number of lights required
- wattage (refer to Australian Standard 1158 for relevant categories)
- equipment list specifying required light fittings
- evidence of local government authority approval

How much will it cost?
The cost for a proactive upgrade to 42 W CFL depends on the type of luminaire and the location. Requests of five or more upgrades in the same location are eligible for a bulk order discounted rate.
